Supervising Legal Clerk - 27 years with the County

What do you like most about working for the County of San Luis Obispo?

Having a purpose. Serving those in our community.

What do you do in your role with the County?

I am the supervising Legal Clerk II for the Legal Processing Unit for Child Welfare Services at the Department of Social Services. I am also the Interstate Company on the Placement of Children (ICPC) Liaison. That roles ensures proper flow of documents and communication when a child from another state is to be place with a family in our county, or when we wish to place one of our dependent children in another state. The Company is specific in rules and regulations.

What advice do you have for newer employees of the County?

There are many opportunities for learning and growing. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Look at the Career Opportunities and apply for those positions that interest you. Use the training opportunities provided by the County to expand and enhance your skills.

What drew you to work for the County?

I have always been drawn to the area of law. The Sheriff’s Office was a new area of law to me (having worked in the private sector from a civil litigation/personal injury law firm for 13 years.) and with my great respect for our law enforcement community, it was a no brainer. And, who would have known that applying for the position at the Sheriff’s Office would bring a new sense of family?

What is one thing from your career that has been most impactful for you?

Look around– everyone has a purpose for the job they are doing and a reason they applied. You can learn something new from someone ever day. The majority of the people I have encountered during my career with the County have helped me become the person I am today. I have made lasting friendships and business relationship
