Importance of Site Visits

SLOCEA staff has been out and about in the county at various site locations conducting lunch site visits. This is a great opportunity for SLOCEA staff to meet with members and explain the benefits of membership and was any concerns that members may have.

Since September we had visited the following worksite locations:

  • Environmental Health

  • Santa Margarita Booster Station

  • Lopez water treatment plant

  • Probation

  • Sheriff’s Office

  • Planning and Building

  • Arroyo Grande Behavioral Health

  • Los Osos Wastewater Treatment Plant

In February we will head over the grade to Paso Robles Public Health and later in the month to our non-County agency of members at the Los Osos Community Services District.

At each site visit we provide lunch for all the attendees and show a 10-minute video presentation that gives members concrete information on the benefits of SLOCEA membership and more. Each member is given a bag of “goodies” that includes SLOCEA promotional items such as a notepad, pen, and letter opener plus handouts with much of the relevant information presented in the video.

Time at a site visit also affords members the opportunity to discuss issues that are going on with their employment or in their particular worksite location. It also gives SLOCEA staff the opportunity to discuss relevant topics affecting public employees in general and specific terms.

At the conclusion of each site visit we draw a name for that worksite location raffle and the winner receives a gift basket or gift card. In addition to that, everyone has the opportunity to put their name in for our quarterly raffle for a Smart TV. Last month’s quarterly winner was Joseph Goostree from the Planning and Building Department. Joseph reported that his current TV was 15 years old so he was very happy and excited to win a new TV.

We look forward to meeting with and getting to know many of our members this coming year. If you would like a lunch site visit in the future for you and your coworkers, contact the SLOCEA office at 805-543-2021.
