Introducing New SLOCEA Executive Director Emily Landis

The SLOCEA Board of Directors is thrilled to reintroduce you to Emily Landis, our newly appointed Executive Director. Many of you may already be familiar with Emily, as she has been an integral part of SLOCEA, having served as our previous Association President. Over the past two months, Emily has seamlessly managed the Association while we conducted an extensive nationwide search for a new Executive Director. Upon review of Emily’s resume, along with the recommendations of former Executive Director Pat McNamara, General Counsel Dennis Hayes, and SLOCEA staff, she was offered the position of Executive Director. We are pleased to announce that Emily has accepted the position and officially assumed her new role on December 18, 2023.

Emily's dedication, level-headedness, and commitment to the goals and mission of SLOCEA have been evident throughout her seven years as a Director on the Board. Her experience as a Steward since 2015 and Director since 2016 has been invaluable, and we have no doubt that she will continue to excel in her new leadership role.

A Central Coast native, Emily was born in Templeton and graduated from Atascadero High in 2007. She joined the County of SLO in 2014 as an Employment Resource Specialist (ERS) and quickly became an essential part of the team. Over the years, she showcased her leadership skills, earning a promotion to Social Services Program Review Specialist in 2019. Her experience as a County employee serves as an excellent foundation and provides a unique perspective to the SLOCEA staff team.

Emily's notable contributions to SLOCEA include her role as part of the Negotiating Team in 2022. This experience provided her with a deep understanding of the intricacies of negotiations and reinforced her belief in the importance of a strong and unified association. Her involvement in all stages of negotiations not only strengthened our position but also fostered collaboration among different County departments, including Team members from the Trades Unit.

Looking ahead, Emily has ambitious goals for SLOCEA. Her vision includes building labor representation support, expanding our recently established Strike Fund, and filling the vacant seats on the Board. She aims to cultivate an even stronger membership that will pave the way for the next generation of Union supporters. Emily is committed to ensuring that every member comprehensively understands their rights as County employees.

We are confident that under Emily's dedicated leadership, SLOCEA will continue to thrive, achieving new heights and advancing the interests of our members. Please join us in welcoming Emily as our new Executive Director.
