The Importance of the Member Portal

During the 2014 collective bargaining cycle, SLOCEA introduced the Member Portal. This new site was added to the home page of our website and was primarily created to provide confidential, up-to-date news and information to the membership regarding negotiations for their individual bargaining unit. Back then, this valuable tool proved to be successful at educating and engaging the membership in the negotiations process.   

The Member Portal is one of the many benefits of SLOCEA membership and this confidential information is only available to SLOCEA members. 

In the 2017-2018 negotiations cycle, the County and SLOCEA ended at impasse when the County would not agree to a wage increase for a successor agreement. This led to mediation and a factfinding hearing and consequently to the first ever strike by County workers. During the course of these actions, the Member Portal provided the membership with critical news and information that kept them informed and abreast with what was transpiring throughout the process. The membership was united and strong, in large part because of the communication SLOCEA provided through the Member Portal. 

As you know, we are currently in contract negotiations with the County for the Big Unit (Public Services, Supervisory and Clerical bargaining units) and the Trades, Crafts and Services bargaining unit. We are also getting close to concluding negotiations with the Los Osos Community Services District for the Miscellaneous bargaining unit.

Following each bargaining session, SLOCEA staff posts an information update that summarizes what transpired at the bargaining table. We then send out an email notifying bargaining unit members of the new negotiations posting on the Member Portal. If you are not receiving these emails, contact our office to make sure we have your correct personal email address.

If you are not able to log onto the portal or it does not recognize your credentials, contact our office at info@slocea.org or by phone at 805-543-2021. You can also contact SLOCEA if you have forgotten your username or password, and we can quickly get you back up on the portal.

Now more than ever, is the time that we need the membership to be responsive, unified, and engaged in the negotiations process. We are at an important point where our membership should also be informed and connected with what transpires at the bargaining table. The SLOCEA Member Portal is the best way to achieve that by providing you with crucial information.
