Member Programs
SLOCEA has a variety of programs that are exclusive to our members, including Academic Scholarships, Personal Crisis Grant, Special Emergency Grant and Summer Childcare Reimbursement. Read below for more information on these programs!
Academic Scholarships
In an effort to assist new and continuing students with their academic planning and success, San Luis Obispo County Employees’ Association (SLOCEA) will be awarding up to $10,000 in academic scholarships.
The SLOCEA Academic Scholarship is awarded annually to SLOCEA members or members of their immediate family who want to begin or continue their secondary education. The SLOCEA Board of Directors will award the scholarship(s) to the applicant(s) demonstrating the best overall performance in academic achievement, community service, and school activities.
The 2024 application period is closed. Come back early 2025 to apply!
Summer Childcare Reimbursement
The Summer Childcare Reimbursement Program is available to assist eligible County employees with their childcare expenses during the summer months.
This County-funded, SLOCEA-administered program is available to all permanent employees in the Public Services, Trades, Supervisory, Confidential, and Clerical bargaining units.
Eligible children must be 14 years old or younger and not yet attending high school.
Application deadline for 2024 is June 30.
Personal Crisis Grant
The purpose of this Fund is to provide financial assistance to members in times of an unforeseen personal crisis & to assist members who have exhausted all other options available to them and are still in need of one-time-only financial assistance.
Any SLOCEA member in good standing may apply for a financial assistance grant (Grant) under this policy for any qualifying event.
Qualifying events under this policy include but are not limited to: accidental fire or flood, or fire or flood which occurs through circumstances beyond the control of the applicant;
catastrophic illness or injury where the illness or injury is expected to incapacitate the employee for an extended period of time and which creates a financial hardship because the employee has exhausted all of his/her accumulated leave;
debilitating illness or injury of an immediate family member that results in the employee being required to take time off from work for an extended period to care for the family member, when this creates a financial hardship because the employee has exhausted all of his/her accumulated leave.
Survivor’s Endowment Grant (SEG)
As a benefit of Association membership, every SLOCEA member in good standing may enroll in the Association’s Survivors Endowment Grant (SEG) Program.
The program currently pays a $3,000 cash grant, upon the death of the member, to the member’s designated recipient (“Grant Designee”). Although this is not an insurance program, the “Grant Designee” is similar to a beneficiary for a life insurance policy.
Enrollment in the Survivor’s Endowment Grant Program is cost free to SLOCEA members. To enroll, please complete and return the Enrollment and Recipient Designation Form to the SLOCEA office via any of the following methods:
