Welcoming New Director, Ryan Barney!

SLOCEA is excited to welcome Ryan Barney as the newest member of the SLOCEA Board of Directors. Ryan was sworn in to seat #19 At-Large at the Board of Directors meeting on June 19, 2024.

Ryan has been a SLOCEA member and SLO County employee since May 2021, working at Veteran’s Services as a Veteran’s Services Representative I. Ryan has consistently expressed interest in SLOCEA’s efforts to advocate for better compensation and benefits for County employees since he began his career with the County. As a veteran of the US Navy, Ryan is passionate about advocating for veterans, and for his coworkers and peers who serve them at Veteran’s Services.

In his memo of interest, Ryan stated “I want to be of service to the members [of SLOCEA] just as I serve the veterans as a Veterans Service Representative. I assist veterans in filing for claims that have been denied by the Veterans Administration because I pride myself in finding alternative ways to achieve a desired result. As a US Navy veteran, I know what it's like to work together as a team; to work together to achieve a common goal; to support each other even when times are tough.

I look forward to utilizing my skills and abilities as a leader, as a mentor, as a hard worker, as a confidant, and as a learner. I hope to improve upon these skills and adopt new methods that will assist with my growth and development as a Board Member.”

Ryan successfully completed his Board training prior to being appointed and sworn in at the June Board meeting. SLOCEA would like to thank Ryan, not only for his service in the Armed Forces, but also for his willingness and dedication to serving the SLOCEA membership. We look forward to him being a part of our leadership team!
